Advice on contributing to Zig Source to fix an issue (codeberg 31182)

I have ran into a duplicate symbols error in a project recently and the error is denoted here https://codeberg.org/ziglang/zig/issues/31182 I would like to fix it however I do not know where to start. I am not familiar with the nuances of linking and the last time I tried to read zig source I got lost really fast.
