Kindle not seen by file chooser in plasma

I’m trying to access my Kindle with calibre, but when I try to add books, the kindle doesn’t appear on the list of directories/devices in the add files dialog. If I open dolphin, it shows the Kindle as a device and I can browse directories. I know it has something to do with the mtp connection. The Official Wiki isn’t very useful. The first suggestion is to use jmtpfs, but this is apparently unmaintained. The second, to enable gvfs, did not change the situation. The manual method using gio als...
