Yesterday I gave a talk at PGDay UK 2026 in London about pgSafe, a from-scratch Go rewrite of enterprise Postgres backups, and what pgBackRest's near-demise in April taught us. The talk covered what a backup tool really does, the invariants every backup tool has to hold, my design tenets, where 100,000 lines of C went, and the parts no language can shrink.
