SshResident at 180% CPU: why my ScanSnap iX2500 took 14 seconds to start, and the fix that wasn't code

A vendor daemon re-enumerated every running app on my Mac before each scan. I tried to fix it with a dyld interpose, broke scanning on a signed system binary, and won by taking the Mac out of the loop entirely.
