Experiment: Adding optional chaining to CPython using AI
I used an AI coding assistant to experiment with adding optional chaining directly to CPython. The idea came from a discussion about having optional chaining in Python, and I wanted to see how far I could take the implementation using AI assistance, particularly in a large codebase like CPython. A couple of hours later, I had a working experimental fork. For example: name = response?.customer?.name.lower() If response or customer is None, the expression short-circuits and evaluates to None. ...
