Mistral shipped a time-series foundation model today. I measured its latency — and its confidence.

Timestral is Mistral's first time-series foundation model family (5M–209M). I verified the parameter counts from the weight files, reproduced the launch post's CPU latency setup on a 2-thread VM (5M: 52.4 ms median vs a 10 ms claim at 8 threads), and ran a 24-month holdout: median MAE 44.93 beats seasonal naive by 37%, but the 80% interval covered only 4 of 24 months.
