Niphargus entlebuchensis, blind groundwater amphipod from Switzerland
A blind groundwater amphipod known only from the Schrattenfluh karst ridge in central Switzerland, inside the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Entlebuch, despite dense sampling across the country. It surfaced through a citizen-science programme run with drinking water providers and was later traced to the Silwangenhohle cave. The largest known male measures 18.5 mm, and its mouthparts carry 9 to 11 forked spines where most of its relatives have 7.
